Bagini Glacier trek is situated at the region of Garhwal Himalayas. It is the most amazing trekking point for the trekkers who love adventurous treks. Located at the altitude of 4500m (14816), it provides the glorious views of lovely snow-capped Dunagiri peak, Changa Banga peak and Kalanka peak.

Trekkers are usually amazed by the natural beauty of the trek. This trek encompasses all the characteristic features of the Uttrakhand region. Ascending in between in the thick rows of rare species of alpine flowers, the serene atmosphere of the trail, the unpolluted fresh and crisp air and crystal clear water of the rivers is everything a trekker usually dreams of and desires in his trail. The stay in the base camp without the chaos of daily life and commercialization makes you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

The trek is most suitable for beginners and acclimatization is also not required. The preferable season for this trek are May, June, September and October. The air gets thicker in the winter months, thus making the trek difficult. The maximum altitude you will reach in this trek expedition is 4500m. Right clothes and ankle-supporting trekking shoes are amust for this journey.

Day 1: Hardiwar to Joshimath

Trekkers will need to reach Joshimath from Haridwar by road. The town is 250 kms from Haridwar. The actual trekking campaign will begin from Jumma. You can’t reach Jumma from Haridwar fluently, therefore, it is advised to stop at Joshimath on the first day. On the off chance that you decide to start from Haridwar in the morning, you can visit, while passing, couple of well-known spots like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag and Karnprayag.

The town Joshimath is otherwise called Jyotirmath and it is trusted to be one of the four “maths” or prime establishments set up by the legendary Adi Shankara. Few spots that can be visited if the time allows are Badrinarayan and Rajeshwari devi temple in Shankaracharya Math, the dual avatar temple of Lord Vishnu – Narsinh sanctuary, Bhavishya Kedar sanctuary, Gari Bhawani sanctuary and Tapovan, a spot well known for its regular creation of boiling hot water springs. Visitor houses are accessible for the night stay.

Day 2: Joshimath to Ruing Village via Jumma

Taking around one and a half hour, we cross Dhauliganga first before reaching Ruing village (2286m; 7500 ft). The road is comfortably accessible for any moderate trekker. Accommodation is available in tents and rest houses.

Day 3: Ruing to Dronagiri

According to local people, this stretch of trekking is around 10km. Track goes through some dense forests with the Bagini River on your left side where the landscape is dazzling. Before reaching Dunagiri village (3500m; 11500 ft) there are some steep climbs where the trek becomes slightly tricky. After that, you will reach a valley below Dunagiri village with a concrete path leading to the village.

Day 4: Dronagiri - Base Camp

At the beginning of the day’s trek, we go to the top of the ridge above the village, crossing to the other side down towards the river (Bagini nallha) with a concrete bridge to cross over to the other side. The path goes upwards slowly crossing some green fields (Rangatoli) and after that it is through boulders. This phase of the track needs attention to negotiate properly. After crossing the green fields and the river, there is a place to pitch tents called Lower Bagini (3750m; 12300ft).

Day 5: Base Camp to Bagini Glacier to Base Camp

The desired option on this day is to trek around three hours on a path that goes over morain and fields, eventually leading to a stay at Upper Bagini. Water sources are available here at Upper Bagini (4515ft). Changa Banga peak is visible from this area and we can choose to stay here or to come back to the Lower Bagini camp depending on preference.

Day 6: Base Camp - Dronagiri

The journey from here will be a monotonous one. You will have to go down the same route you choose to come up to the Base camp. A distance of 18 kms will be covered this day, but since it will be a descent; we are unlikely to feel tired and lose strength. Dronagiri village will be reached via Longatulli thence to Ruing village. An early start would help to achieve the day’s destination. Night camps can be set in Ruing village again.

Day 7: Dronagiri to Ruing to Joshimath

The objective of day 7 is to reach Joshimath following the same route taken on the ascension previously. The descent will hardly take three hours to reach Jumma village, from where a vehicle ride will take you to Joshimath. This trek is done in a circular form with the start and finish point happening in Joshimath. The night can be spent in one of the guest houses; a perfect time to relax your mind and body and envisage the last seven days of pure joy and achievement.
