Overview

Lumbini: The birthplace of Buddha, located in southern Nepal. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and contains many temples and monasteries.Boudhanath Stupa: One of the largest stupas in the world, located in Kathmandu. It's an important center for Tibetan Buddhism. Swayambhunath: Also known as the "Monkey Temple," this ancient religious complex sits atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley.Namo Buddha: A sacred site where, according to legend, Buddha in a previous life sacrificed his body to feed a starving tigress and her cubs.

Kopan Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Kathmandu Valley, is a renowned center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. Founded in 1969 by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, it has played a crucial role in introducing Western students to Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and practice. The monastery features a main gompa (temple) with stunning Tibetan architecture, stupas, a library, and accommodation for visitors and students. It's particularly famous for its educational programs, including the popular month-long November course, as well as shorter retreats and daily teachings. As part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), Kopan Monastery continues to be a significant site for Buddhist study, meditation, and cultural exchange. Visitors can join daily tours, participate in meditation sessions, or enroll in courses, making it a valuable stop on any Buddhist pilgrimage journey through Nepal.

White Gumba is a striking Buddhist monastery located atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, about 3 km from Swayambhunath. Built in the 1970s, it's renowned for its pristine white structure and golden spires, which contrast beautifully against the surrounding greenery. The monastery belongs to the Drukpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and houses a large Buddha statue, intricate murals, and prayer wheels. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Kathmandu from its vantage point. White Gumba is not just a religious site but also a peaceful retreat, offering meditation classes and hosting an annual festival during Buddha Purnima. Its unique blend of modern architecture with traditional Buddhist elements makes it a popular destination for both pilgrims and tourists exploring Nepal's rich Buddhist heritage.
